2. Al-Baqarah (the Cow)

الم (1)

الف لام میم (حقیقی معنی اﷲ اور رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ہی بہتر جانتے ہیں)

Alif, Lam, Mim (Only Allah and the Messenger know the real meaning.)

ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لاَ رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِيْنَ (2)

(یہ) وہ عظیم کتاب ہے جس میں کسی شک کی گنجائش نہیں، (یہ) پرہیزگاروں کے لئے ہدایت ہے

(This is) the Glorious Book in which there is no chance of doubt(It is) a guide for those who guard against evil and fear Allah:

الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّـلَاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ (3)

جو غیب پر ایمان لاتے اور نماز کو (تمام حقوق کے ساتھ) قائم کرتے ہیں اور جو کچھ ہم نے انہیں عطا کیا ہے اس میں سے (ہماری راہ) میں خرچ کرتے ہیں

Those who believe in the unseen, and establish prayer (fulfilling all requisites) and spend (in Our way) out of what We have given them;

وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ وَبِالآخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ (4)

اور وہ لوگ جو آپ کی طرف نازل کیا گیا اور جو آپ سے پہلے نازل کیا گیا (سب) پر ایمان لاتے ہیں، اور وہ آخرت پر بھی (کامل) یقین رکھتے ہیں

And those who believe in (all) that which has been revealed to you and that which was revealed before you, and also have (perfect) faith in the life after death.

أُوْلَـئِكَ عَلَى هُدًى مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ (5)

وہی اپنے رب کی طرف سے ہدایت پر ہیں اور وہی حقیقی کامیابی پانے والے ہیں

It is they who follow Guidance from their Lord and it is they who shall achieve real success.

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ (6)

بیشک جنہوں نے کفر اپنا لیا ہے ان کے لئے برابر ہے خواہ آپ انہیں ڈرائیں یا نہ ڈرائیں، وہ ایمان نہیں لائیں گے

Verily those who have adopted disbelief, it is the same for them whether you warn them or you warn them not, they will not believe.

خَتَمَ اللّهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِهمْ وَعَلَى سَمْعِهِمْ وَعَلَى أَبْصَارِهِمْ غِشَاوَةٌ وَّلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ (7)

اللہ نے (ان کے اپنے اِنتخاب کے نتیجے میں) ان کے دلوں اور کانوں پر مُہر لگا دی ہے اور ان کی آنکھوں پر پردہ (پڑ گیا) ہے اور ان کے لئے سخت عذاب ہے

Allah (as a result of their own choice) has set a seal on their hearts and their ears and there is a blindfold (set) over their eyesAnd for them there is severe torment.

وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَّقُولُ آمَنَّا بِاللّهِ وَبِالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤْمِنِينَ(8)

اور لوگوں میں سے بعض وہ (بھی) ہیں جو کہتے ہیں ہم اللہ پر اور یومِ قیامت پر ایمان لائے حالانکہ وہ (ہرگز) مومن نہیں ہیں

And amongst people there are (also) some who say: ‘We believe in Allah and the Day of Judgment,’ whereas they are not (at all) believers.

يُخَادِعُونَ اللّهَ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَمَا يَخْدَعُونَ إِلاَّ أَنفُسَهُم وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ(9)

وہ اللہ کو (یعنی رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو)٭ اور ایمان والوں کو دھوکہ دینا چاہتے ہیں مگر (فی الحقیقت) وہ اپنے آپ کو ہی دھوکہ دے رہے ہیں اور انہیں اس کا شعور نہیں ہے

٭ اس مقام پر مضاف محذوف ہے جو کہ رسول ہے یعنی یُخٰدِعُونَ اﷲَ کہہ کر مراد یُخٰدِعُونَ رَسُولَ اﷲِ لیا گیا ہے۔ اکثر ائمہ تفسیر نے یہ معنی بیان کیا ہے۔ بطور حوالہ ملاحظہ فرمائیں : تفسیر القرطبی، البیضاوی، البغوی، النسفی، الکشاف، المظھری، زاد المسیر، الخازن وغیرہ۔

They seek to deceive Allah (i.ethe Messenger) and the believers but (in fact) they deceive only themselves and they are not aware of it

[Here a mudaf mahdhuf (a hidden and inherent co-related noun) is used which is RasūlThe words (yukhādiūn Allāh) ‘they seek to deceive Allāh’ denote (yukhādiūn ar-Rasūl-Allāh) ‘they seek to deceive the Messenger of Allāh’Most of the leading authorities of Tafsīr have drawn the same meaningSee: Tafsīr al-Qurtubī, al-Beḍāwī, al-Baghwī, an-Nafasī, al-Kashshāf, al-Mazharī, Zad-Almasīr, al-Khāzin etc.]
